Choosing your wedding transportation

Amidst all the smiles, tears of joy and confetti, it is not uncommon for many people to forget one of the most important aspects of a wedding; the type of transport to and from the event.

While this might seem as easy as asking a friend or family member for his/her flash set of wheels instead of your own personal vehicle, here are a few things to consider when making your selection

Which type?

More often than not, choosing your vehicle must have some relation to the type of wedding you have in mind. If for example your theme is mostly of a vintage kind, turning up in a flash modern day sportscar or SUV can be hardly be seen as appropriate.

Instead, opt for something stylish and with class such as a Rolls-Royce, Mercedes-Benz or Bentley from the 60s or 70s.

If you plan on having a modern wedding, the range of options are endless - from a dignified luxury sedan (Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar), to sporty convertibles, luxury SUV’s and, if you really are keen on adding some American flavour, stretched limousines.

Make sure it works

Having made your selection, it’s crucial that your choice actually works. There is nothing glamorous about breaking down on the move and remembering it for the rest of time. Therefore, make sure the type of vehicle is running reliably and that it often gets serviced.

Make sure the interior and body, regardless if the car comes from 1965 or 2015, is well looked after and devoid of scratch marks, torn upholstery and even dents.

It also advised to go for a company that has build-up a good reputation for itself in the industry, and one that is often mentioned. Don’t be afraid to ask around and do some research on a number of companies online before making your selection.

I want that one!

The last thing you want is for the vehicle you have selected to be unavailable on your special. Book in advance and enquire as to the exact rates the vehicle will cost. You would also need to direct the driver, if you plan on opting for one, where and when to pick the bride up and how long the actual ceremony would last.

More often, vehicles are included in after ceremony photo shoots, so inform the company on how long you plan on keeping it and when it will be returned.

Although often overlooked, make sure the vehicle is roadworthy and its license up to date as getting pulled over could have the same effect as a breakdown.

While not a regular feature, some companies do offer extras such as champagne or treats while taking you to the church. Enquire about this or if you could bring your drinks with.
