Perfect Spots for Tying the Knot

Perfect Spots for Tying the Knot reviews_84_7439.jpg

So your partner has popped the question, you’ve said yes and now it’s time to start planning your special day. “The first - and most important - thing to do is to pick your wedding venue, since it will set the theme and tone for your big day and will most likely influence the date due to availability,” says Christa Badenhorst, Group Marketing Manager at Premier Hotels & Resorts.

For the newly-engaged, finding and securing the perfect venue can be quite daunting. To help make it that much easier, Badenhorst shares some of her favourite spots around the country.

“Whether your dream is to walk down the aisle amidst wildlife, say ‘I do’ in an urban environment, or share your first kiss as a married couple backgrounded by the ocean, South Africa has a wide variety of stunning locations to make these dreams a reality.”

Nuptials in nature

Those wanting a one-of-a-kind wedding with a blend of luxury and wildlife should head to Premier Resort Mpongo Private Game Reserve. Situated on over 3,500 hectares of conservation land and enveloped by rolling hills and lush river valleys, the Reserve is home to elephants, lions, buffalos, giraffes, antelope and bird-life. It offers four air-conditioned venues capable of seating up to 100 guests and an abundance of accommodation options, including three lodges and a villa.

Seaside celebrations

If you’ve been imagining exchanging your vows outdoors at sunset with soft beach sand beneath your feet, then Premier Resort The Moorings (Knysna) is ideal. Located on the banks of the Knysna lagoon, guests have private access to the lagoon which means no onlookers (or photobombers) on your special day. With spectacular views of the surrounding indigenous forest and Knysna Estuary, the Resort promises a picture perfect wedding setting and can accommodate your guests in a variety of four-star graded rooms, one and two bedroomed suites, as well as a waterfront villa.

City ceremony

For the logistically-minded couple, nothing beats a big city when it comes to convenient wedding locations and, with Johannesburg’s Premier Hotel O.R. Tambo being a mere 2.7km from the airport and only 500m from the Rhodesfield Gautrain Station, it offers the utmost in accessibility. The hotel also has nine venues to choose from, 275 spacious rooms and a free shuttle service to and from the airport – one less thing for the bride and groom to worry about.

White wedding

While winter might not be South Africa’s peak wedding season, getting married surrounded by snow can make your special day magical. Premier Resort Sani Pass offers a spectacular setting for your winter wonderland wedding, with four venues able to accommodate up to 450 guests, luxurious rooms and, of course, magnificent mountain views. Plus, the resort offers an array of on-site activities to keep guests entertained, along with a spa to help the husband- and wife-to-be shake off any pre-wedding jitters.

With options like these to choose from, finding your perfect venue will be a piece of (wedding) cake.
