After dreaming of your wedding day since you were a little girl, you probably already have specific ideas on your wedding d?cor and details. When it comes to choosing a venue for your special day, the venue must bring those dreams to life!

Over the last few years, more wedding venues have appeared around Port Elizabeth - giving brides so many choices from rustic barn type venues to really elegant ball-rooms. The secret is remembering what you always wanted for your wedding day.

Pinterest and wedding brochures are wonderful tools to get you started. It is good to see what other brides are doing the world over. From the pictures and ideas, you can start creating a look and feel for your venue.

Remember your venue and catering will more than likely take the biggest bite out of your wedding budget, so you need to be 100% happy with your choice. I always advise my brides to make a list of essentials and ensure that they are covered first.

Food and venue tend to go hand in hand. Thus, most venues either have their own in house catering team or a preferred caterer. Make sure your menu ties in with your theme or d?cor. It is also nice to add your personal touches - it is your wedding!

Since most venues have their own preferred service providers, find out what the terms are if you hire your own service providers. It is usually a good idea to use the venue’s recommendations.

Always find out how long you can have the venue for - to allow for enough set-up time for your service providers. Know your coordinators to ensure the day runs smoothly from set up to closing time.

Also ask about music levels, last dance and last round at the bar. Remember the wine list, corkage fee and bar prices can greatly affect your wedding experience and the budget.

Lastly, I believe that a venue should have its own character without all the frills. If the venue does not speak to you immediately when you walk in, trust your gut and keep looking!
