Woodlands Country Cottages

Woodlands Country Cottages reviews_15_4211.jpg

I was lucky enough to spend a weekend away with my boyfriend at Woodlands Country Cottages. Situated just outside Kenton-on-Sea, it is the perfect destination for family holidays, relaxing breakaways and even romantic honeymoons. No matter the purpose of your getaway, Bev and Dave Smith, your hosts, will see to it that you get exactly what you need.

There are three different types of cottages at Woodlands, all hidden away in the indigenous bush, each totally private with its own hammock nook, braai area and deck where you can sit and enjoy the birdlife and peaceful environment. We stayed in one of the Loerie cottages and enjoyed the vivid birdlife that flourishes in the surrounding bushes. We also had a fabulous time just relaxing under a canopy of branches covering the deck and braai area.

After being warmly welcomed by our hosts, Bev and Dave, we were impressed to find that all the cottages are fully equipped for self-catering purposes, including all braai and cooking utensils. A nice touch was the coffee basket that was waiting for us along with biscuits, rusks and fudge pieces! Although the cottages are self-catering, a bed and breakfast option is available. The delicious breakfasts are brought to your cottage and set up beautifully for you to enjoy in the privacy of your own dining area! If you feel like eating out, Bev and Dave will also be able to recommend some fantastic restaurants in town, only five minutes away!

There is a communal pool a short walk from each cottage and a communal lounge area where one can enjoy playing table tennis, reading, watching television or even just learning about the area, its creatures, people and places to visit. Instead of staying indoors we decided to take a walk along one of the many paths on the property and returned completely relaxed after our stroll through the beautifully preserved vegetation.

Although there are many sunny beaches to visit just five minutes away, on Bev’s advice we decided to take a drive through the Sibuya game reserve as there is a public road that runs through the reserve. With no charge for driving on this road, one can thus enjoy a short drive with a good chance of seeing some game. We were lucky enough to spot various antelope as well as some giraffe and rhinos over the fence in the Kariega game reserve.

The friendly service, private setting of each cottage and the peaceful atmosphere at Woodlands are all factors that contribute to the fact that their guest books are filled with notes from people whose names can be found on numerous pages. I for one will definitely be returning to Woodlands in the future!
